Archaeology Notes

NO12SW 85 142 249.

NO 142 249. A short cist containing the well-preserved skeleton of a young adult accompanied by a flint knife was excavated by Perth Soc of Nat Sci in 1960 after being uncovered by the plough.

Two peculiarities of the cist were that hand-sized boulders were carefully wedged into the NE and SW corners and that the cover stone, measuring 1.23m x 1.27m, was much too large for the size of the cist.

It is pointed, shouldered and weathered at one end which gives the impression that it is in fact a standing stone deliberately truncated.

M E C Stewart 1970.
