Archaeology Notes

NR92NE 9 9636 2796

A building survey of the structures forming the Glenscorrodale steading was undertaken between April and October 2003. The buildings are early 19th century in date, with plain or little architectural detail. The farmhouse, now demolished, had plain red sandstone fireplaces. No traces of earlier buildings or features were found on the site.

Report lodged with WoSAS SMR and the NMRS.

Activities

Field Visit (16 April 2015)

A walk-over survey was conducted on 16 April 2015 along the route of a proposed new overhead power line at Glenscorrodale, Isle of Arran. The only features of note along this route were the sparse remains of the possible farmstead of Corriehiam at NR 95421 26494 and sections of pre-modern boundary walls at NR 95534 26479, NR 95677 26829 and NR 96254 27879.

Information from OASIS ID: scotiaar1-210040 (J Lewis) 2015.

Field Visit (16 April 2015)

Glenscorrodale was an early 19th-century farm steading lying between Sliddery Water and the road, at NR 9636 2796, and at the time of the first edition OS map appears to have been a substantial group of buildings.

To the west of Glenscorrodale, around NR 96254 27879, is a turf-covered bank that meanders approximately north/south but whose course was difficult to follow through dead bracken.

Information from OASIS ID: scotiaar1-210040 (J Lewis) 2015.
