(NN 724 020) A short cist was found at Doune sand quarry on 4th March, 1954. Only the northern portion was preserved, the remainder having fallen down the quarry face. The cist, oriented NE-SW, lay at a depth of 3 1/2ft, the portion still remaining in situ measuring 2ft in length. Fragments of the skull and upper jaw of a child were found, along with a small food vessel (Accession no: EQ 608), fragments of a large food vessel (Accession no: EQ 609) and a miniature battle axe (Accessionn no: EQ 610). These finds were donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) by Lord Doune in 1955-6.

Enquiries at the sand quarry revealed that this stone cist (of which no trace exists) was found at approximately NN 7241 0191, on the south side of Round Hill, a natural gravelly hill now completely removed by quarrying. No further information. The finds are still in the NMAS except for the human remains which were destroyed.
