Archaeology Notes

NJ90SW 255 9065 0331

This station on the Great North of Scotland Railway branch line from Aberdeen to Ballater, known as the 'Royal Deeside line', was opened in 1894; it was later grouped into the London and North-Eastern Railway and closed on 5 April 1937. Both platforms and the main station building survive intact, though the latter now seems to be in disuse.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, ATW), 26 February 1997.

Activities

Standing Building Recording (7 February 2011)

NJ 90666 03349 A standing building survey was carried out on 7 February 2011 at Pitfodels Station and Stationmasters Cottage prior to conversion work. The station and cottage were constructed in 1894. The station building is a tall single storey, 7-bay, rectangular-plan, good quality timber station building retaining much interior detail. It was formerly part of a small suburban station complex on Old Royal Deeside Railway now used as footpath. It has horizontal clap-board on a granite and concrete base.
