23 September 1898 MARY, 9 years, not reg. wood lugger. 5 ton, 3 men. Master and owner J. Jeffry, Port Bannatyne. Port Bannatyne for fishing. Ballast. Collided with steam fishing vessel BATTLE ISLE of Glasgow. Wind ESE2. 1? miles SE of Skate Island, Loch Fyne. Casualties involving total loss of vessel during year end 30 June 1899.

(Classified as wooden lugger, in ballast: date of loss cited as 23 September 1898). Mary: this vessel was in collision and sank 1.5 miles SE of Skate Island (Battle Isle). Capt. Jeffry.

Not registered. Built 1889. 5 tons [unspecified].

(Location of loss cited as N55 50.00 W5 16.50).

Per contra the above, the Skate Islands are probably to be equated with Sgat Mor [name: NR 930 666] and Sgat Beag [name: NR 942 665] off the SW side of the Cowal peninsula.
