N57 40.8 W2 57.4

NLO: Buckie [name: NJ 415 654]

Spey Bay [name centred NJ 37 67].

16 February 1898 BROTHERS, 10 years, not reg., wood fishing lugger. 5 ton, none on board. Master J. Wilson. Owner J. Wilson, Portessie, Banffshire. Moored in Buckie Harbour. Ballast. Wind NNW10. Buckie Harbour.

Source: PP Abstracts of Shipping Casualties on Coasts, or in Rivers and Harbours of the UK July 1897-98 (1899 [C.9384] LXXXVII.409).

NMRS, MS/829/67 (no. 851).

(Classified as wooden lugger: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as 16 February 1898). Brothers: [this vessel] foundered and [became a] total loss while moored in Buckie harbour.

Not registered. Built 188. 5 tons [unspecified].

(Location of loss cited as N57 40.67 W2 58.50).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Buckie (Cluny) Harbour (NJ46NW 15.00) is centred at NJ 42883 66017.

The remains of the vessel were presumably removed without delay from this constrained location.

An alternative location may be suggested for the loss of this vessel within Buckpool (or Seatown) Harbour (centred NJ 41812 65677), for which see NJ46NW 8.00.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 12 January 2004.
