(NJ 881 483) Stone Circle (NR) (site of)

(No siting symbol shown).

OS 6" map, (1959)

"Mr Wilson remembers when a boy, to have seen one of the stones which formed part of the circle, standing near where the Trig station now is". Name Book 1871; Information from Mr Wilson, Mill of Auchreddie to OS.

No trace. Reputed site occupied by a late 19th century monument. The siting evidence for this stone circle seems to depend on Wilson's identification of the stone near the trig station, which was not necessarily in situ, if the evidence of PSAS (1904) is to be relied on. It is possible that there were two stone circles hereabouts (see also NJ 84NE 12).

Visited by OS (NKB) 22 April 1968.
