OS 6" map, (1959)
Upwards of twenty tumuli were destroyed during land reclamation about 1846. Each consisted of 'a continued series of upright stones' about 18 feet in diameter. In the centre a grave 'of the usual dimensions' had been dug, some cut in solid rock to a depth of about 5 feet. Burnt bones were found in some of them, and in others ornamented urns full of calcined bones.
Mr Booth conjectured that the tumuli at NJ 5331 2625 were connected with the causeway from the stone circle (NJ52NW 10) to the northwest. He stated that the stones from these tumuli resembled those found in stone circles.

These cairns, which were destroyed in about 1846, stood in what is now cultivated ground 250m SW of Percylieu farmsteading (NJ52NW 48). The description of the cairns and their removal in the Name Book suggests that some covered cists containing urns.
