Archaeology Notes

(Location cited as NJ 328 398). Mortlach Distillery, founded 1823 by George Gordon and James Findlater. A very fine example of a large traditional distillery. There are two malting kilns, one of them attached to a 2-storey, 6- by 14-bay block of malting floors, the other within the productive complex. The five pot still have worm condensors cooled in wooden tubs.

J R Hume 1977

This distillery incorporated a 15th-century tower-house as a central feature.
