Archaeology Notes

NJ81SE 45.03 8887 1339.

The canal was overlain by the North of Scotland Railway, which opened in 1854, before the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxxv) was surveyed. The milestone is not traceable on this map, but the Grid Reference given places it to the E of the line of the railway.

Information from RCAHMS (MD) 2 May 2002.

This milestone is situated on the NE side of the garden of 17 Fetach Walk and is now partly obscured by a privet hedge. It is a cylindrical granite pillar with a domed top and measures 0.35m in diameter and 0.5m in height. A sloping facet on the top of the NE face bears the incised number 7?.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 5 December 2001.
