Field Visit (21 April 1971)
NJ04NW 12 0416 4740.
At NJ 0416 4740 set into a SE facing slope is a circular hut visible as a platform c 7.5m in diameter bounded in the NW by a pronounced back scarp and elsewhere by a turf-covered bank spread to c 2.5m in which little stone is visible. The entrance is not apparent.
The hut occurs in a contemporary field system defined by stone clearance heaps, lynchets and occasional field walls, with fields varying between c 20.0m square and c 15.0m by c 10.0m.
Hut surveyed at 1/10000
Visited by OS(AA) 21 April 1971.
Field Visit (29 July 1991)
NJ04NW 12 0416 4740.
Most of the SE-facing slopes of the Moss of Faebuie have been afforested. The hut-circle and field-system recorded by the OS in 1971 could not be located. Several small cairns were noted at the edges of the trees to the SW of Meikle Corshellach and further cairns were visible in the forest ride in the vicinity of NJ04NW 11.
Visited by RCAHMS (DCC) 29 July 1991.
Watching Brief (September 2012)
CFA identified three clearance cairns (a-c) immediately to the NW of the proposed substation platform.
a: Located at 304155 847115. Circular grassy mound measuring 6m in diameter by 0.6m high.
b: Located at 304178 847111. Circular heather covered mound measuring 3m by 0.4m high with several small stones showing.
c: Located at 304192 847147. Sub-oval possible cairn measuring 5m by 3m by 0.4m high. several stones are visible where an area of turf and peat covering the feature has been eroded away.
No remains of the field system or hut circles were identified within the substation footprint; the area had been heavily disturbed through water erosion, cattle trample, peat cutting and the construction of nearby overhead pylons.
