Archaeology Notes

NJ91NE 45 9842 1937

Two concrete anti-tank blocks, studded with stones on their upper surfaces, lie in the channel of the Blairton Burn on the seaward side of the dunes that fringe Pettens Links.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF), 4 March 1996.

The line of anti-tank blocks with a pillbox at NJ c.9848 1952 are visible on postwar RAF vertical air photographs (58[A]/412, 5003-5004, flown 10 May 1949) S of the Menie Burn. The line of concrete blocks extends northwards and another group is visible at the mouth of the Menie Burn. The pillbox was not visible during the visit by RCAHMS in 1996 and is likely to have either been removed by the sea or buried by the drifting sand dunes.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), August 2004
