Scope and Content St Rollox Locomotive Works, Springburn Road, Glasgow This works was founded in 1856-7 by the Caledonian Railway to build and service the company's locomotives and rolling stock. It incorporated a locomotive running shed. The works was completely rebuilt in the 1880s to designs by Robert Dundas, engineer. This shows the works offices on Springburn Road, from the north-west, part of the 1880s rebuilding. This building housed the time and wages offices, as well as the works manager's office. The workshops are to the rear. This works continued to build locomotives until the 1920s, and still maintains electric multiple-unit trains used in the Glasgow area as the Glasgow Railway Works, the last works of its kind in the city. These offices are now used by private businesses. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
