Scope and Content Elevated view of ground from south-west, Heart of Midlothian Football Club, Tynecastle Park Stadium, Gorgie Road, Edinburgh Tynecastle Park is the home ground of Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) Football Club, founded in 1874. Following the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans at Hillsborough, Sheffield in 1989, the recommendations of the Taylor Report forced Hearts, along with other major clubs, to rebuild their stadium to meet new safety standards. Plans were approved in 1993. This shows the pitch before it was moved 6m to accommodate the new Wheatfield Stand on the left in 1994. The terracing at the far end, called the School End because of the white building behind it, was replaced by the new Roseburn Stand. Main Stand, on the right, remains essentially unchanged. Due to Tynecastle's crowded urban situation, Hearts has considered moving several times since opening its present ground in 1886. Ideas such as sharing a ground with city rivals Hibernian, or building a stadium on the outskirts of town at Sighthill, Millerhill or Hermiston have all been examined, but, so far, rejected.
