Scope and Content Kessock Ferry, North Kessock, Ross and Cromarty The ferry crossing from South Kessock to North Kessock avoided a long journey round the head of the Beauly Firth for passengers to and from the Black Isle. Ramped ferry piers were provided from the early 19th century. This view shows the ramped pier at North Kessock used in the latter days of the ferry service, with the ferry 'Rosehaugh', built with bow and stern ramps on both sides, for this service. This ferry service ceased when the replacement Kessock Bridge opened in 1982, part of an upgrade of the A9 which took it over the Black Isle. The 'Rosehaugh' was transferred to the Corran-Ardgour ferry in Lochaber. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
