Dumfries, Edinburgh Road, Car Factory View of worker's housing.

SC 455200

Description Dumfries, Edinburgh Road, Car Factory View of worker's housing.

Date 5/9/1975

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 455200

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Workers' housing, Heathhall, Dumfries, Dumfriesshire This housing was built in association with the Arrol-Johnston motor-car factory. It consisted of two blocks of four houses each, in an English Arts and Crafts style. These were fairly large houses, probably for foremen or the like. This view shows the houses out of use, with the original factory on the right, and an extension of 1924 on the left. The latter destroyed the amenity of the houses, and probably accounts for their abandonment. The factory was very advanced in its construction, as were these houses.
