Scope and Content Drem Airfield, East Lothian Luftwaffe aerial photograph of RAF Drem airfield, taken during World War II. Drem served as a fighter and night-fighter station during World War II, until closure in 1946. Three grass runways are visible in this photograph. Each dispersal pen and four defensive pillboxes are noted. The German Luftwaffe took aerial photographs of parts of Scotland throughout World War II. The photographs were used for intelligence work, such as selecting targets, assessing bombing accuracy and finding equipment and defensive positions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
