Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 443644

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Aboyne Station, Aberdeenshire This station was originally opened as the terminus of the Aboyne Extension Railway, a prolongation of the Deeside Railway, but was completely rebuilt in about 1900 in a baronial style, probably to serve commuter traffic. This view shows the station from the south east. The tracks were removed after closure of the line in 1966, but apart from the loss of the glazing from the platform awnings remained substantially intact. This was one of a few stations on the Great North of Scotland system which were rebuilt at the turn of the century. Others included Elgin and Inverurie. The platform awnings were removed in the 1980s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
