Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Logierait Viaduct, Logierait, Perthshire This viaduct was built as part of The Highland Railway's branch from Ballinluig to Aberfeldy. It was designed by Joseph Mitchell, and the ironwork was supplied by Sir William Fairbairn & Co. The branch closed in 1965 and the viaduct became a road bridge. This view shows the viaduct from the north east. The piers supporting the tie beams have cast iron cladding, as do the dies at the end of the approach spans. The main spans of this viaduct are of the lattice or Town truss type. The viaduct became an estate road bridge after closure, and it is still used by local people as a short cut.
