Description Baillieknowe, farm chimney: View from W

Date 9/4/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 427644

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Steam engine and boiler house and chimney, Baillieknowe, Stichill, Roxburghshire This is a fine unaltered example of the buildings which housed a fixed steam engine and boiler driving a threshing mill installed in the adjacent barn. This view shows the square-section chimney, unusually built of stone, with the engine and boiler houses in front of it. These are attached to the threshing barn, with its roof-ridge ventilators. On the right is the granary and cart shed. Installations such as this were common in the eastern, grain growing areas of the Borders. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
