Scope and Content Presbytery window at Iona Abbey, Argyll and Bute The Benedictine abbey at Iona was built around AD 1200 on the site of St Columba's earlier monastery. It was altered and partly rebuilt in the 13th century and again in the 15th century. It became derelict after the Reformation of 1560. This is a view of the window in the E wall of the choir. Though weathered, the carving is in good condition, dating from the 15th century. It is one of three windows which allow light into the presbytery. The E wall of the choir, along with much of the S side of the whole church belongs to the 15th century phase of the abbey, when the choir and nave were widened. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
