Scope and Content Broch at Edinshall, Scottish Borders This broch is built within the remains of an earlier fort at Edinshall. In the late 18th century the site was known as Wooden's Hall (or Castle) after Woden or Odin. It has also been linked to the folktale of Red Etin. This is a plan of the broch. The entrance is on the E side of the structure and there are two guard cells leading off the 4.9 m long passage. Three cells, one with a set of stairs, lead off the courtyard. In Roman times, this area belonged to the tribe known as the Votadini, who appear to have had a peaceful relationship with Roman authority.. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
