Scope and Content Souterrain at Crichton, Midlothian This souterrain is at Crichton. A short entrance passage leads below ground to the main gallery. The builders made use of several Roman stones which probably came from a nearby fort. The site of this fort has still to be found. This is a view of the souterrain. The passage is lined with drystone walling. Part of he passage is still roofed by the original massive stone lintels, each over 2 m long. The rest of the roof is modern concrete.
