Catalogue Number SC 2625379

Scope and Content This location plan showing the antiquities in the neighbourhood of Broomend of Crichie was created following the survey of the garden seats constructed from cist slabs which overlook the lake within the former policies of Broomend (NY 77920 19198). It incorporates information current up to 2018 and includes key topographical information reported from the excavations carried out by Richard Bradley and his colleagues between 2005-7 (Bradley R. et al 2011). The site of the stone removed from the avenue in 1851 (Ritchie 1920) is here shown in a position that reflects Bradley’s evaluation of the distance that originally obtained between its constituent orthostats. However, it has also been placed in the same alignment as the east portal stone in the henge, the socket adjacent to the timber circle and stone 4 situated to its south. This is a less strict re-interpretation of James Ritchie’s reading of George Guthries’ report that stated how it was situated ‘north’ of stone 4 (Ritchie 1920, 158-9; see plan).
