Scope and Content Detail of roof construction over court room in Inveraray Court House, Argyll and Bute The court house in Inveraray was designed by Robert Reid (1774-1856), architect and surveyor to the King in Scotland. His plans were adapted by James Gillespie Graham (1766-1855) and the court house was erected between 1816 and 1820. The roof construction of the court room is of a type known as queen-post construction. The vertical timbers are the queen-posts which are arranged in pairs and are supported on tie-beams which are the main horizontal timbers. The contractors, William Lumsden and James Peddie, were from Edinburgh and the building cost £5,858. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
