DP 341043

Description Aerial view of RRS Discovery, Dundee waterfront, looking NW.

Date 27/1/2008

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 341043

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This image shows RRS "Discovery" at her permanent home beside Craig Harbour. For a detailed aerial view of "Discovery" see P1010981. The distinctive building beside Scott's Antarctic exploration vessel is the associated visitor centre, Discovery Point. Craig Harbour is on the site of ancient harbour. Until the opening of the Tay Road Bridge in the 1960s it was the ferry landing for the crossing to Newport. Since this photo was taken, the Olympia leisure centre, to the right of the harbour, has been replaced by the Dundee building of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Beyond Craig Harbour are the roofs of Dundee Station. The City Church's historic Steeple is seen in elevation to right of centre top. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
