Scope and Content Duart Castle was originally a stronghold in the 13c, enlarged in the 14c with a substantial tower house. There were further reconstructions and in 1673 was acquired by the Campbells, Earls of Argyll. It was garrisoned from time to time. It became a ruin and was reconstructed in 1911 by the MacLeans. It is the residence of the present chief. Duart Home Farm is in front of the castle. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
