Scope and Content View from east of Kilns House, Kilns Road, Falkirk Kilns House was built in 1852 to designs by the architect William Stirling III. It is a two-storeyed, asymmetrical-plan villa built in the Tudor-Jacobean style. The villa's façade includes stonework and carvings of high quality, and would have been the home of a wealthy Falkirk family. This shows the advanced entrance bay with a short flight of steps leading to an arched doorway at the left. Carved stone panels decorate the gable-ends and above the door. A string-course runs above the ground floor windows, and the façade also features canted and square bay and gablet-headed windows. William Stirling III came from a family of architects, and worked on various mansions in the Falkirk area before beginning work on the huge Stirling District Asylum in 1866. Unfortunately he fell ill during its construction, and had to hand over the commission to Thomas Brown of the architectural firm of Brown & Wardrop. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
