'Auchenleck Castle, (Monikie) Auchenleck, or Affleck, is a building of apparently the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. It is pretty entire, and a singularly interesting tower, with two bed-closets and a little oratory all in the thickness of the wall'. 'Inverquharity castle, near Kirriemuir, is probably a contemporary erection with that of Auchenleck but of greater extent'. 'Vayne Castle, in Ferne, is a ruin partly belonging to the 16th & partly to the 17th century'.
