The old farmhouse at Pearsby Hall was abandoned some forty years ago and has since been remodelled for use as a cattle shed. Extending on its N side, there is a range which is said to have been used as a kitchen but is now a byre. What may be a cut-back cruck blade in its W wall incorporates reused timber for the lintelling of a door and window, and it also has a trussed roof formed of adzed and pegged timbers which are evidently in reuse.
The farmhouse is of a type uncommon in Scotland, being almost square on plan, with a central hall, staircase to the rear, and four rooms symmetrically disposed on either floor. This plan-type may be derived from Cumbria.

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd, a desk based assessment and walk over survey (May 29th 2014) was conducted
The historic environment record within the Site Boundary is relatively limited, although there is some potential for the proposed development site to contain previously unknown heritage assets from at least the later prehistoric period onwards, given the historic landscape character of the wider area. Taking this into account, the archaeological potential of the proposed development site is considered to be low.
