Note (4 January 1996)

NY c. 20 89 NY28NW 51

A map of 1590 notes a tower at 'Garterton' on the E side of the Corrie Water. Nothing can now be seen of this building and its location is unknown. The modern farmsteading of Carterton (NY28NW 52) stands on the W bank of the stream (at NY 2024 8952) but it may be significant that an alleged chapel site (NY28NW 3) lies 200m S of this, on the E bank.

Information from RCAHMS (IF), 4 January 1996.

(J and R Hyslop 1912; J M Corrie 1916).

Listed as tower.

RCAHMS 1997.
