Nothing is now visible of a tall steel framework , topped by a cabin, which stood immediately WNW of the main roof of the Mannheim Oleum plant (NY26NW 38.2)

Ground-based official contemporary photographs (MUN 5-297 pt3, 500; MUN 5-297 pt5 710F) held by the National Archives at Kew shows that the elevated cabin was rectangular on plan and had a roof that sloped down from ESE to WNW, while its walls were clad in corrugated iron sheets. There were single windows in its SSW and WNW elevations. A tall ladder attached to the inside of the frame on the SSW provided access through the floor of the cabin. This also connected to a walkway entering the Mannheim Oleum plant at a high level.

This structure is architecturally comparable to the two elevators at the gable ends of the Retort Houses (NY26SW 38.11, NY26SW 38.12). It is possible that it was the electric elevator that delivered the Fines to the Herreschoff Furnaces in the Mannheim Oleum Building (NY26SW 38.2) via trucks running on an overhead trestle.
