In Lochar Moss (Name: NY 006 780), Tinwald parish, "A few years ago a canoe of considerable size and in perfect preservation, was found by a farmer, when digging peats four or five feet below the surface, about four miles above the present flood-mark; but it was destroyed before any antiquarians had heard of it."

Statistical Account (OSA) 1791 (J Laurie)

A 'few years' before 1791 a logboat was discovered in a raised moss in Tinwald parish at an altitude of about 15m OD. It was discovered at a depth of between 4' (1.2m) and 5' (1.5m) during peat-digging and was noted as being 'of considerable size'. It was destroyed without detailed examination.
