Clarke depicts an extensive network of water channels from the area of Caul (NX c.92 95) to the River Nith at Barburgh Mill (NX 900 882). A tributory from Loch Ettrick (NX 945 937) enters the main line at NX 9235 9341, just above Heathery Dam (NX 920 933).
These channels were probably cut about 1800 to provide water-powered transport at the Park Limeworks (NX99NW 41).
R J Clarke 1984.
