An arc of three Type K aircraft hangars is situated immediately E of Dumfries Technical College(NX 99860 79281, NX 99958 79177 and NY 00103 79138) and SE of the control tower (NX97NE 153.01). All would appear to be in original condition and in use as storage sheds.
The three hangars are situated in an area formerly occupied by buildings and huts relating to the airfield, some of which are still in use as workshops and storage.
The buildings are visible on 1:5000 scale vertical air photographs (106G/UK 1314, 5035-5036, flown 27 March 1946) and on RAF WW II photographs (FNO 158, 6.5 and 6.12, flown 26 September 1942).
K type aircraft hangars were designed by the Air Ministry, Directorate of Wroks and built by Sir William Arrol and Company as a development of the previous Type E, L and J hangars. They were very similar to the J type.
