For discovery of possible cists, see NX76SW 8.
(NX 74816453) Artificial mound under trees, like a long barrow. Dug into at North end. 58yds long, 3-10ft high, 24ft broad. Highest and broadest at South end. No obvious ditch.
Information from J K St Joseph 3 September 1949
Within the wooden enclosure centred on NX 74806450, the supposed Roman Burying Place, (KIRKCUD 42 NE 7), and occupying most of the area, is a long mound of earth and stones apparently of artificial construction. Its main axis is N-S and it measures 50.0m by 16.0m, its height varying from 1.0m at its north end to 1.8m at its south end. The mound has been dug into at its north end where there is a scatter of medium sized stones.
This feature is probably a natural glacial mound.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (WDJ) 18 February 1963.
This long gravel mound appears to be of natural origin. The small quarry at the northern end may be the location where several cists (NX76SW 8) were found in the 19th century.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS/IMS) 7 September 1993.
