(NX 4168 6559) Cairn (NR)
RCAHMS 1914
A circular cairn about 65ft in diameter and 8 to 9ft high standing on a level platform of stones which extends out from it for a distance of from 15 to 20ft. The ground falls slightly towards the S, and in that direction the base has an elevation of about 4ft 6ins. On the N it appears to be somewhat lower, but has been interfered with by the bank at the roadside. The cairn has not been excavated. (cf. Knowes of Trotty, Orkney (HY 341175), one of which compares with this cairn, although oval-shaped. It contained an EBA short cist with gold and amber ornaments - R W Feachem).
RCAHMS 1914
A bell-type cairn as described above. It has been mutilated on the N side.
Resurveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (RD) 26 September 1966.
