(NX 2948 4834) Homestead (NR)

OS 1:10000 map (1982)

The feature is described by the RCAHMS as a stone-walled enclosure, measuring 85 x 93ft within a wall reduced to its foundations and nowhere definitely measureable, though apparently 12ft thick. The position of the entrance is not apparent.

(This is comparable with NX24NE 12 which is classified as a homestead by Feachem).

RCAHMS 1912, visited 1911

A homestead levelled into a gentle south-west-facing hillslope in pasture land. It is sub-circular and measures 32.0m E-W by 26.0m within a stony bank 5.0m wide and up to 0.8m high. (Heaps of stone from field clearance obscure the bank in many places.) A slight lowering of the bank in the west at the change of slope suggests an entrance but this is not clear. The interior is divided into two almost equal sized terraces.

This homestead is similar to others in the vicinity (NX24NE 9, NX24NE 11, NX24NE 12 ).

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (TRG) 17 May 1977
