Archaeology Notes

NX06NE 11.13 06708 68453

The ruinous remains of the former Officers' Mess are situated in rough grazing about 450m SE of Lochryan House (NX06NE 17). Constructed of brick and concrete with corrugated iron roofing.

The building is visible on vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 987, 3136-3137, flown 9 November 1945), which show that apart from the main structure there were a further 16 huts to the N and S.

Planning permission was being sought to use the site for a private house.

Infromation from Defence Of Britain Project Report (Archaeology of WW 2 N Inch Parish) and RCAHMS (DE), March 2006
