Archaeology Notes

NX06NE 11.08 centred 0768 6529

The remains of Leffnol sidings are situated on the W side of the main A77 road about 400m S of Leffnol farmsteading. Brick buildings, concrete platforms and other strcutures remain in the area and the indetnations of the railway sleepers can be seen in places.

An engine shed with coal stage and engine pit to service locomotives used on the railway stood at c. NX 0781 6524.

The area is visible on vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 987, 3140-3141, flown 9 November 1945) , which shows the sidings and engine shed.
