This lime kiln, built into the former raised beach at the harbour near the landward end of the South pier, is 20ft [6.1m] high and 15ft [4.6m] wide, roughly built of local rubble and having double-arched fireplace. Clearly has been gravity-loaded from above and is now infilled. This kiln dates from the early 19th century, having been built for use at the time of the extensive harbour works. Marked on OS 6" 1st edition 1846-7.
