Archaeology Notes

NT82SW 9.01 from 8419 2150 to 8418 2121

Lying to the E of the track leading N from Sourhope and spread over the gentle top and uppermost slopes of Hairny Law, a spur on the S side of Blakedean Curr, there are eleven field clearance cairns as well as a more substantial cairn which has previously identified as a burial cairn (NT82SW 9).

Of the clearance cairns, that at the N end, NT 8418 2150, is the largest measures 16m in diameter and is 0.7m high and may possibly be a burial cairn. The remaining clearance cairns measure up to 4m in diameter and stand up to 0.3m in height.

Some of these cairns may have acted as markers along the route onto the hill from Sourhope.
