On a moderate rising to moderately steep slope immediately above the haughland of the Bowmont Water, there is a small area of cross-contour, reverse S-shaped rig measuring 145m from ENE to WSW by 60m transversely. On the W, the scarp dropping down to the haughland forms the lower limit of the cultivation, whilst the original extent to the N is not known, as a patch of narrow rig (NT82SW 99) defined by a collapsed field-wall has encroached. On the E, the upper limits of the reverse S-shaped rig approach, but do not overlie, the extreme lower limits of an extensive area of cultivation following the contour on Cove Hill (NT82SW 99). The S extent of the rig generally respects the N side of a documented medieval farmstead, Cove Farm (NT82SW 24). A further area of reverse S-shaped rig (NT82SW 104) lies immediately S of Cove Farm and both are probably associated with that settlement. The rigs measure 5m in width between furrows up to 1m in width and between 0.2m and 0.3m in depth.
