(NT 8031 2874) Thirlestane Tower (NR) (Site of)

OS 6"map, Roxburghshire, (1923).

The old mansion house of Thirlestane stood near Lochtour: it was pulled down c 1837.

It was the property of Sir Andrew Ker of Greenhead before 1661.

A Jeffrey 1857.

The site of this tower, situated on a raised platform, was almost certainly protected on the south and east by the Yetholm Bog (NT82NW 12).

No structural remains survive but the name and site are still known locally.

Visited by OS(RD) 24 November 1967.
