Accessing Scotland's Past Project

The stable courtyard which lies to the south-east of Marchmont House comprises an interesting group of buildings which range in date from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries.

An L-plan range containing a stable block, squash court and generator house is the oldest part of the complex, with the core of these structures dating from the seventeenth century. To the south stands a three-storeyed and battlemented tower, built in Gothic style. A cottage, built in an Arts and Crafts style, creates the third side of the courtyard. Designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, the cottage was built in about 1915.
