Archaeology Notes

NT57NE 72.02 5545 7771, 5575 7767, 5530 7740, 5565 7745

Five small hutted camps have been identified from RAF WW II vertical air photographs (NLA 68, 3041-3049,4041-4049, flown 26 August 1943) and postwar vertical air photographs (106G/SCOT/UK14, 5363-5364, flown 1946), in fields to the SE of the airfield and NW of the Peffer Burn.

The camp huts are mainly wooden, but interspersed among these are several Nissen types.

All the camps have been demolished and the fields have been returned to agricultural use.
