Archaeology Notes

NT55SE 15 5564 5302.

NT 5566 5303. The remains of a cairn are clearly visible as a patch of bent grass in the heather. It consists of a slightly raised platform, with a surrounding ditch which dies out on the E side. The diameter between the centre of ditch is 13.0m, and the ditch is about 0.7m deep and 1.0, wide. The platform consists of turf-covered stones with several large exposed stones lying on the top.

Visited by OS (CJP) 4 October 1956

NT 5564 5302. The robbed and almost levelled remains of what was probably a simple round cairn are situated on the crest of a west facing slope at approximately 335m OD. The ditch effect noted by OS (CJP) is the result of crude digging around and within the perimeter, which is now poorly defined. The overall diameter is approximately 17.0m, with a maximum height of 0.3m.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.
