Archaeology Notes

NT43NE 100.22 49629 36009

The former two road railway engine shed was situated about 205m SE of the station building (NT43NE 100.01) in an area now occupied by construction works for a new Asda store. No evidence could be seen of the building or the associated engine turntable situated immediately to the W (NT 49609 36004). A second turntable was situated on the N side of the bridge at Station Brae (NT43NE 126), about 51m NW of the site of the station building.

Activities

Project (April 2009 - February 2015)

The Borders Railway Project proposals are to reinstate the Newcraighall to Tweedbank section of the former Waverley Line. The reinstated railway line will be approximately 48km long and the majority of the route will use the existing railway embankment.

Several field surveys, archaeological evaluations and standing building surveys were undertaken by CFA Archaeology from April 2009 until February 2015.
