For Torwoodlee Tower see NT43NE 3.
Torwoodlee: This Georgian mansion was built about 1783. Originally the house was an oblong block containing a basement, only visible on the S side, three upper floors and an attic; a pavilion of two storeys was attached to either side by a curved screen-wall. All of this survives and is still recognisable.
In the 19th century, the centre part of the N side of the house was extended to the N in a wing provided in front with a porch opening on the present approach, which has replaced the original drive. The masonry is of whin rubble with dressings of red freestone.
Two carved panels, one dated '1601', and the other from Buckholm Tower (NT43NE 9) have been built into the wall of the modern entrance-hall.
