This very much denuded fort is situated on the N ridge of Todshaw Hill, at a height of 900 ft O D. A single rampart encloses an area 180 ft long from NE to SW by 130 ft wide, but ploughing has reduced it to little more than a terrace for most of its length. At the NE end there is an entrance-gap, on the N of which is a trace of an outer ditch. There is a secondary gap in the SW end and a long breach has been made by the plough on the NW side. In the interior there are quarried outcrops and a scooped area in the form of an incomplete circle 40 ft in diameter, which may have been the site of a hut.
RCAHMS 1956, visited 1948
The remains of this fort are as described by the R C A H M. Only two small portions of the rampart, barely 0.2 m high on the inner side, are visible along the SE side. The slight counterscarp of the ditch to the N of the NE entrance is barely 0.3 m high. It is possible that the gap in the SW end may be another entrance. The approach to the fort from the SW, along the ridge on which it lies, is cut off by a further bank, 0.5 m high on the inner side, with an outer ditch 1.0 m deep.
Visited by OS (WDJ) 11 February 1965
No change to the previous field report although it may prove to be a settlement rather than a fort.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
